DescriptionThe Ely branch of the bank (in the High Street) was established by June 1810, since balance sheets exist from that date; though they run only until March 1826 it is clear that the branch continued up to the merger with Barclays in 1896 (Kelly’s directories). Thomas Mortlock negotiated the purchase of the property in 1847.
