TitleImpropriate rectory
DescriptionAfter the Dissolution the impropriate rectories of Great and Little Abington were bought in 1540 by Sir Philip Parys, who also owned land in Little Abington and Hildersham. The rectory of Great Abington passed eventually, in 1679, to John Bennet, Lord of the two manors; thereafter it passed with the ownership of the estate as a whole. Little Abington rectory passed in 1701 to the Perne family and was never owned by the Mortlock family (VCH, Vol. VI, p. 9). It passed into the ownership of Abington Estate about 1909, purchased with the former Jesus College and Lagden acres by J.J. Emerson, Lord of both Great and Little Abington manors.
For abstract of title of James Pierson to the rectory, tithes, etc. of Great Abington, see 509/6/2/7/1.
