TitleFarm leased by Jeremiah Lagden
DescriptionJeremiah Lagden was the son of Robert, tenant of the White Hart Inn at Bourn Bridge, Abington. Smuggled tea hidden there may be responsible for Jeremiah’s reputation as a highwayman, but he was also a considerable Little Abington land-owner. At inclosure 94 acres was allotted for 'Lagden's land'. He lived at The Old House, just north of the river in Little Abington and was buried in a vault in the garden in 1804, aged 97 (VCH, Vol. VI, pp. 4, 8-9; Little Abington parish registers). The Jeremiah appearing in these records is Jeremiah Charles, his grandson (baptized 1 April 1793 in Little Abington), who by 1822 had moved to Tonbridge, Kent.
