DescriptionThese concern litigation in Common Pleas, etc in a case brought by Captain George Cockburn of HMS Implacable for the return of freight money, i.e. one third of the two and a half per cent of a freight of dollars given by the Spanish government for transporting a freight of dollars from Spanish America, which he had given to admirals of the Mediterranean station. Includes 2 letters of the Duchess of Orleans to Admiral Sir Charles Cotton (with note by Philadelphia Cotton that one was found amongst the admiral's Lisbon correspondence in March 1869, being numbered no. 96 in series of papers O41A) dated at Mahon, Minorca, 21 February.
