TitlePetition of Thomas Squire, of Thrapston
DescriptionThe petitioner has 2 or 3 gangs of lighters, which he uses to transport corn and other commodities between Thrapson, Oundle, King's Lynn and Cambridge on the River Nene, Whittlesey Dyke and other rivers. He reports that the keeper at Stanground Sluice refuses to open the sluice unless the watermen pay 5s to 8s at his house, even though the Bedford Level Corporation has made an order for the sluice to be run 2 or3 days a week. He has spent more than £200 in passing the sluice, and asks for the sluice-keeper to be removed. One signatory. Also contains the affidavit of Thomas Squire and William Hanson.
