TitleBundles of Accounts
DescriptionTwo hundred and sixteen bundles of bills and receipts for Bedford Level Corporation expenditure. They correspond to the charges, discharges, payments and disbursements recorded in the Engrossed Account Books (see also BLC3/1/1). These bundles typically contain some or all of the following: a draft of the Receiver General's "General Accounts" and "North Level Account"; the divisional accounts, estimates, bills and receipts of Corporation Officers; bills and receipts for the other work completed in the Bedford Level; interest warrants; discharged bonds; payments for Fen Office and other expenses; taxes collected; payments of rates and charges due on lands in the Bedford Level; labour accounts, and other draft papers.

These bundles were originally wrapped in brown kraft paper. This has become very brittle over time, and many of the wrappers are now in a poor condition. Some of the bundles were repackaged by Conservator Debbie Ryan and Conservation volunteers in 2006, while others were re-packaged as part of this project.
