TitleThe Public Health Bill, 1875
DescriptionThis series relates to ongoing negotiations between the University, Corporation and the Improvement Commissioners on the question of rating. The Public Health Act, 1875 empowered the Commissioners, as the Urban Sanitary Authority, to raise a general district rate, as well as the rates they had existing powers to raise under the Cambridge Improvement Acts. This series consists of correspondence between the University and Commissioners on the issue; and cases for the opinion of council on whether the commissioners were required to raise two distinct rates and account for all expenditure separately.
