| Description | (1) Sir John Cotton, Conington, Bart, son and  heir of John Cotton, Esq., decd., who was son and  heir of Sir John Cotton, late of Biggleswade, Beds, Bart, decd. Henry Washington, Lincolns Inn, Middx., gent.  (2) John Underwood, both of Clifford's Inn, gents. Richard Cox, both of Clifford's Inn, gents.  (3) The Rt. Hon. Montague, Earl of Abingdon, and  John Woodhouse, Watton, Norfolk, Esq.  Recites: Lease and  release of 2/3 July, 1708, release being marriage settlement of Sir John Cotton and  Elizabeth Herbert.  Recites marriage:  Recites agreement that Sir John Cotton shall levy a fine and  suffer a common recovery for the better conveying of the premises to the several uses thereof, with all freehold lands in Hunts, to bar estates tail and  seal it to Sir John Cotton and  his heirs forever.  Now (1) at the request of Sir John Cotton for 5/- apiece paid to them by (2) release to (2). The hundred of Norman Cross; the Manors of Conington, Glatton cum Holme, Stilton, Sawtry, Walton, Folksworth and  Denton with apps. 12 boat gates in Whittlesea Mere. The Meer with fishing, flags and rushes, with any lands of (1) in Hunts. So that by these presents and  the fine to be levied, (2) may be tenants to suffer a Common Recovery with  (3) as plaintiffs.  (3) will then be seised of the property for the uses declared in the Marriage Settlement of 3 July 1708. If no use is declared there, for the use of Sir John C. and his heirs. |
