TitleSettlement on the marriage of Mr John Rootham Wormsley with Mrs Sarah Horsford
Description1. Sarah Horsford of Earith, widow. 2. John Rootham of Earith, butcher. 3. Reverend Edward Baines of Bluntisham, clerk; Thomas Knights the younger of Earith, merchant. Recites indenture dated 1 May 1850 made between Jane Ann Theed, Henry Horrell and 1. Recites surrender of copyhold property dated 1 May 1850 by 1 to the said Henry Horrell. Recites that the consideration [£2400] plus interest still remained due. Recites that 1 is seized in fee simple of the freehold property hereinafter described. Recites a lease and release dated 16/17 April 1840 between Thomas Baker and William Robinson, James Horsford of Earith (then the husband of 1 and since deceased), Joshua Harper and George Barrett by which the hereinafter described freehold properties were conveyed to the use of such person or persons as 1, then the wife of James Horsford, should direct or appoint. Recites that 1 has a daughter by her former marriage called Sarah Horsford, aged 7. Recites that a marriage is shortly to take place between 1 and 2 and it is agreed that 1 should surrender certain freehold and copyhold properties unto 3 upon trust and for the purposes later expressed. This indenture witnesses that 1 has granted, bargained and sold unto 2 for the use of 1 in trust for her sole and separate use exclusive of 2 her intended husband or any future husband the following. Plots of land (10a and 28a) lying in Upper and Lower Delphs, Haddenham, Isle of Ely, Cambridgeshire. Land in Earith (3r). Three cottages fronting East Road, St Andrew the Less, Cambridge. Messuage with garden (half acre) in Earith now occupied by 1. Endorsed: ‘Entered with the Register to the Governors Bailiffs Commonalty of the Company of Conservitors of the Great Level of the fens called Bedford Level, Lib. 50. fo. 461 the fourteenth day of February One Thousand eight hundred and fifty one, pursuant to the Act of Parliament passed in the fifteenth Year of the Reign of his Majesty King Charles the Second’.
