Title | Letters between Millicent Sparrow and her grandfather, Robert Sparrow, Worlingham Hall [Suffolk] |
Description | Three letters tied together. (i) from Robert Sparrow, dated 21 Nov 1818: concerning the disposal of the Worlingham estate. He had 'threatened' her with a serious letter but expresses deep affection for her and her 'dear brother' Robert. A payment of £25,000 willed to Robert should now go to her. (ii) from Millicent, dated 30 Nov 1818: in response to his request for her thoughts on 'a difficult situation'. She is his only surviving heir and finds she now has prospects she didn't anticipate. She discusses inheritance and her affection for her aunt and uncle. She asks him to keep her words confidential as she does not wish to cause offence. (iii) from Robert, dated 3 Jan 1819: he apologises for taking so long to reply to her letter. He is in a state of confusion but expresses sincere affection for her. He mentions her imminent coming of age and wishes her future happiness. [Handwriting very difficult to read and partly illegible]. |
