TitleMap of St John's Ripton [Abbots Ripton]
DescriptionLabelled “The Mappe of St Johns Ripton” and showing Abbots Ripton and Wennington with the surrounding fields, woodlands and farmland.

Old and new inclosures are highlighted and numbered, although the corresponding key is too faded to read. It is likely that the map was surveyed by Evans Mouse for Oliver St John of Bletsoe, as part of a larger survey of the St John estates in Huntingdonshire, Bedfordshire and Glamorgan between 1622 and 1628. A volume containing the surveys to accompany the map is available at Bedfordshire Archives [Ref: GY10].

Until the mid-16th century the manor of Abbots Ripton belonged to Ramsey Abbey but it was granted to the St John family by the Crown following the Dissolution. For a short time afterwards the village took the family name and became St John's Ripton.

This map was formerly on display in St Andrews Church and, before that, in the Estate Office.
