Description | Full length studio portrait of The Right Honourable Edward George Henry Montagu, 8th Earl of Sandwich (1839-1916) with his three dogs. The Earl lived at Hinchingbrooke House, Huntingdon and was actively involved in local affairs. He was, for example, the first Chairman of Huntingdonshire County Council, the Honorary Colonel of the Huntingdonshire Militia, Lord Lieutanant of Huntingdonshire, a Justice of the Peace and M.P. for Huntingdon. He was also Mayor of Huntingdon 1896-1898. He was unmarried, and at his death in 1916 was succeeded by his nephew. |
