TitleMr. Hinde in his Studio
DescriptionFrederick Hinde in his photographer's studio in Ermine Street, Huntingdon. He had, in fact, only taken over the business in 1890. When his stepfather, Arthur Maddison, died in 1887, his widow Julia (and Frederick's mother), entered into an agreement with Thomas Percy Graham, a Bedford photographer, to run her late husband's business and to train her son Frederick in the art of photography. The agreement terminated in 1890 and Frederick took over the running of the business, while Mr Graham promised not to practise photography within a 15 mile radius of Huntingdon or St Ives under a penalty of £50. This image shows Frederick in 1891, proudly displaying a selection of his photographs. The business was now known as Maddison & Hinde, and the 1891 census records that Frederick and his mother Julia were photographers, while Frederick's sister Gertrude Hinde and half-brother Arthur Maddison were photographer's assistants
