TitleLloyd's School Theatre Group
DescriptionGroup of young ladies in mediaeval-style costumes outside the entrance to Slepe Hall, St Ives. Mrs Anna Stratford Lloyd and her daughter Martha ran Slepe Hall Ladies School at Slepe Hall, Ramsey Road, St Ives at the time of this photograph. In 1877 the Reverend Thomas Lloyd and his wife Anna purchased the existing school, which had been founded some time before 1850 by the Reverend Rugeley and his wife and daughter at Slepe Hall, The Rugeleys demolished the old house, reputedly built on the site of the house rented by Oliver Cromwell, and built the present building, known as New Slepe Hall.
After Mrs Lloyd's death in 1913 her daughter Martha continued to run the school until 1928, when Miss Hilda Newton became headmistress. Miss Lloyd died in 1943.
