TitleCarrier's accounts for journeys from Kings Lynn, Cambridge and Wisbech to London and intermediate places, stating name of client and brief details of goods. May 1792 later used as ledger by Richard Pigott, solicitor, showing work for many clients, including Burnt Fen Commissioners, Feltwell Second District Commissioners, Haddenham Trustees, Sutton overseers, Wilburton Inclosure. At back of volume: memoranda of surrenders etc. delivered into various manorial courts. (The corner of the volume is marked 'Downham and Ely Turnpike Trust', but none of the contents seem to concern this trust)
DescriptionOriginal description for 101/B5 also relates to this item, which evidently had its number changed during the process of listing to 101/O1. Description for 101/B5 reads: Volume labelled on cover Downham & Ely Turnpike Road No. 3 containing: (i) (?) carrier's accounts giving clients' names and brief details of goods but rarely stating commodities, destination, weight (in cwt. qrs. and lbs.) and charge for journeys apparently 'down' from London to Cambridge, Wisbech and Kings Lynn and 'up' to Cambridge, 2 - 12 May 1792. From subsequent use of book it seems most likely that these derive from an Ely carrier, though one of the Ely clients is the waggoner Fussey (1st 8 fos. only, subsequently sewn up). 1792 (ii) Ledger of Richard Pigott of Ely, attorney, for legal business including also accounts of assignment of tolls on Littleport & Downham Turnpike (fo. 334 - 5) and some accounts to Pigott pinned in in part payment of accounts (e.g. by Wm. Royle, surgeon, 1801 - 5). Some accounts due for business dating back to 1787. 1800 - 1811 (iii) Notes of business at manorial courts of Sutton, Mepal, Ely Porta, Downham, Stretham, Littleport, Ely Barton, Wilburton, Wentworth, Witchford, Witcham, Stuntney, Chewells in Haddenham and Coveney with members by Richard Pigott and Henry Pigott, 1805 - 1813
Date1801 - 1813
