Description | The collection is largely composed of slides made of churches, secular buildings of particular interest and street scenes throughout Cambridgeshire, though there are also pictures of places elsewhere on a range of subjects of scholarly interest. Many of the slides were made for lectures given by Dr W M Palmer (1866-1939), a Linton doctor and keen local historian, and some were used in his many published papers in the Society's "Proceedings." These sometimes enable a date to be assigned to particular slides. Others, mainly on college buildings, libraries and manuscripts were made for J.W. Clark, university administrator and antiquary (see R110/012 for a list of these and associated lecture notes of 1905-7). The collection includes slides made of old engravings, manuscripts and paintings but, unless otherwise stated, the slides are of exterior or interior views. |
