TitleCollection of glass lantern slides
DescriptionThe collection is largely composed of slides made of churches, secular buildings of particular interest and street scenes throughout Cambridgeshire, though there are also pictures of places elsewhere on a range of subjects of scholarly interest. Many of the slides were made for lectures given by Dr W M Palmer (1866-1939), a Linton doctor and keen local historian, and some were used in his many published papers in the Society's "Proceedings." These sometimes enable a date to be assigned to particular slides. Others, mainly on college buildings, libraries and manuscripts were made for J.W. Clark, university administrator and antiquary (see R110/012 for a list of these and associated lecture notes of 1905-7).
The collection includes slides made of old engravings, manuscripts and paintings but, unless otherwise stated, the slides are of exterior or interior views.
