DescriptionOriginal small bundle in wrapper labelled 'Sundry Letters, Indemnities, Forged Notes &c, August 1846' containing letters and indemnities including:
Indemnity of Edward Freshwater, Melbourn, against torn £10 note he had received from J.G. Fordham and Sons, Royston, 1834 (with note);
Indemnity of Rev. William Whewell against draft sent to J.P. Rawlinson, Graythwaite, 1833;
Bond of indemnity of James Edwards, formerly of Downing College, now of Godmanchester, to Thomas Mortlock, 1837;
Power of attorney from Mrs Diana Brown, widow of Cambridge aged 85, to John Gillam Bell, 1839;
Letter from G. Mann Burrows, M.D., certifying that Rev. John Weller late tutor of Emmanuel College was of sound mind when signing cheque for £1883 10s 9d, 1835;
Two letters relating to Jean B.D. Boisselier, lunatic, 1837, 1839;
Letter from Day and Robson, Saffron Walden, concerning burnt cheque for £22 (with Quaker language), 1830;

Loose documents including:
Bond of indemnity of Charles Hitch and others for burnt note, with half note and letter explaining how his three-year old son tore it and burnt the other half, 1862;
Empty envelope labelled, 'unsigned half destroyed by Mr Wm. Tingay lighting his pipe with it...'
Letter from Pares's Leicestershire Banking Company about banknotes stolen on railway journey to London, 1843;
Memorandum of an agreement between James and Isaac Hudson of Leicester and Thomas and Frederick Cheetham Mortlock relating to indemnity for lost bill, 1817.
Declaration by Edward Lindley of Johnston and Sons, 38 Botolph Lane, fruit merchants, that the firm had never received the sinister half of a bank note sent through the post by William de Carle of Norwich, their traveler, 4 May 1860.

Indemnities: for 19 £1 notes found at Comberton; for £5 note stolen 28 November 1810 from Manchester Mail, 1811; from Gurney's Bank for notes; from Esdailes for five lost or stolen half-notes, with sinister halves of notes inclosed, 1818.
