DescriptionBalsham is an upland parish nine miles south-east of Cambridge; its north and south boundaries are formed by the Fleam Dyke (probably seventh century) and the Roman Wool Street respectively, while its western boundary roughly follows the present A11 (also a Roman road) here following the route of the Icknield Way. (VCH, Vol. VI, p. 127).
