TitleSequestration Bonds
DescriptionSequestration was the term used for how a benefice, whether this be a rectory or vicarage is administered when it becomes vacant. This could occur after the resignation of the incumbent, but occasionally also because the benefice was too small to support the incumbent, or through personal bankruptcy or canon law breaches. Sequestrators would subsequently be appointed as receivers to ensure the financial and moral maintenance of the parish. The sequestrators were required to agree to a bond that they would submit accounts of their proceedings, else they were forfeit a substantial sum of money. The descriptions entered below include the parish which was vacant and the names of the sequestrators.
