DescriptionAs originally conceived, a faculty was simply a privilege granted to do that which by law ought not to be done. However, in practice, at the archdeaconal level, faculties were almost always granted for alterations to the fabric of the church, and a detailed list of persons to whom faculties were granted can be viewed under the subsequent list for Intimations for Faculties, AH10. The faculty books listed here are registers which record the actual grants of faculties to individuals.
