DescriptionFellowes, Belgrave Sq. London to George Thornhill Esq. Diddington. State of Duke of Manchester's health makes it necessary that they should be ready with a successor to Mandeville. Some in County believe Lord Robert Montague might be induced to come forward; has been written to about his political opinions, about which there is much doubt. Another strong opinion is that the candidate should be a county gent. and resident and most likely person here is George Thornhill. Experience of 1837 when father most unwillingly stood, remained M.P. for rest of his life. Honourable conduct more important than speaking ability. Days of spending thousands ended, now only cost about £500.
