Title"Repairs Ouze Bank: Skipwith's Farm, Admiral Wooleys"
DescriptionBundle of papers concerning the breach in the west bank of the River Ouse in February 1814. Admiral Wooley neglected to repair the bank of the River Ouse by Skipwith Farm, and several thousand acres of land were flooded when the bank breached. Contains several copies of the case against him (see R59/31/box40/bundle2), together with the opinions of [Charles] Abbott; the Registrar's report about the Bedford Level Corporation's liability to pay for the gull repair; copy of a notice served to Admiral Wooley, requiring him to repair the west bank of the River Ouse; an agreement for the Corporation to contribute towards the cost of repairing the gull; notes and correspondence. Also contains a statement of the case between William Cole v William Marshall and George Longman; a printed notice advising that payment is overdue on shares in the London and Cambridge Canal; and copies of the Bedford Level Act 1756, the Bedford Level (Hundred Foot River and Ouse) Drainage Act 1800 and the Bedford Level Drainage Act 1800.
