DescriptionBundle of papers concerning railway legislation passing through Parliament in 1864, 1871 and 1881. Contains copies of the Great Eastern Northern Junction Railway Bill and the Coal Owners Associated London Railway Bill; a schedule of lands in Over affected by the proposal to build a railway between London and the South Yorkshire colleries; a schedule of lands in Bottisham affected by proposals of the Great Eastern Railway Company to extend their network of railways; William Derisley Harding's report about the Coal Owners Railway Bill; a printed petition of the Bedford Level Corporation against the Coal Owners Railway Bill; draft clauses and provisos to protect the drainage and navigation of the Bedford Level, and correspondence. Also contains sale particulars for Bedford House. The Corporation put the mansion house up for sale in 1864, but kept possession of the adjoining building as their offices (see R59/31/box113/bundle 3 for further papers, and R59/31/40/167 for plans to separate the two buildings).
