TitleCompensation Claims for Loss of Profit from Lands in Grunty Fen
DescriptionBundle of papers concerning compensation paid to the owners and occupiers of land in Grunty Fen under the Land Drainage Act 1930. The Drainage Board scoured out the Two Mile Drain in 1951 and did not spread out the spoil bank, so that the owners and occupiers of lands adjacent to the drain were unable to cultivate a portion of their lands. Contains claims for compensation, notes and correspondence. Also contains a scale of payments per acre agreed by the Manea and Welney Drainage Commissioners in 1949. This bundle postdates the Bedford Level Corporation, and probably belongs with the records of Messrs Archer and Archer, Solicitors, of Ely.
