TitleConservators' Proceedings
DescriptionForty one volumes, containing the proceedings [minutes] of meetings in Ely. Every April, the Bedford Level Corporation held their annual meeting at Ely during the third or fourth full week in April. They would typically assemble at a public house in Ely on the Tuesday evening, and business would begin on Wednesday morning. After any oaths were sworn and all the proceedings from the previous year had been read out, the Board considered the general business: approving the Officers' accounts and examining any vouchers, ordering any new works and repairs to existing ones, reading reports and hearing the petitions and memorials delivered to the Board. The Board adjourned to the Shire House, Ely, on Thursday morning for the annual public meeting. At this meeting, the taxes for the following year were set, the Corporation Officers were elected, and lands forfeited for non-payment of taxes were sold. The Board then adjourned back to the public house to consider any remaining business, and the meeting typically concluded by the Saturday.

The Corporation also occasionally held meetings at Ely and other locations in the Bedford Level at other times of the year, often to view the Bedford or particular drainage works, to consider new schemes or in response to an emergency.
