TitlePetition of Several Owners and Occupiers of Fen Lands lying between the River [Cam] and the Highlands of Horningsea, Quy, Bottisham, Swaffham Bulbeck, Swaffham Prior, Burwell, Fordham and Wicken
DescriptionThe petitioners' lands are much annoyed by water, as a result of the bad condition of the great bank of the River [Cam] and for want of scouring out the river. They represent that 702 acres of Adventurers' lands are already invested in the Bedford Level Corporation, and that many more have abandoned their farms. They intend to apply for power to allow them collect a general tax to drain the district with mills, but this will cost a much larger sum than they are able to advance. They ask for relief, as scarcely any of the taxes they have paid during the past 30 to 40 years have been spent on their district. Sixty six signatories.
