DescriptionOne hundred and thirty eight volumes, recording the conveyance, lease and mortgage of Adventurers' lands in the Bedford Level between 1649 and 1920. The Bedford Level Act 1663 required that all conveyances, leases and mortgages of Adventurers' lands were registered with the Bedford Level Corporation for them to be considered valid. These volumes fall into four series - Registers of Conveyances (BLC4/1/1), recording the conveyance of Adventurers' lands between 1649 and 1815; Books of Corporation Sales (BLC4/1/2), recording the lands sold to settle disputes between the original Adventurers and later Participants, and later the sale of lands for non-payment of taxes; Registers of Leases (BLC4/1/3), recording the lease and mortgage of Adventurers' lands between 1657 and 1815, and Registers of Conveyances and Leases (BLC4/1/4), recording the conveyance and lease of Adventurers' lands between 1815 and 1920.
