DescriptionBundle of papers concerning bills for proposed railways in parliament and for the repeal of the 1857 Norfolk Estuary Act. All items dated 1877 unless otherwise noted. Comprises:
i) Great Eastern Railway Bill (q.v. Q/RUm87) 1877: copy of bill; note by office of railway's solicitor (W.H. Shaw of London) undertaking to insert new clauses; formal 'Notice to Owners, Lessees and Occupiers', to Godwin Archer, solicitor to Bedford Level Corporation, for property required by railway on river bank, drain and droves in Ely St Mary and [Holy] Trinity
ii) Great Northern Railway Bill (Shepreth to March; q.v. Q/RUm86) 1877: copy of bill; copy legal statement of 'Clauses for protecting the drainage and Navigation of the Bedford Level'; three formal 'Notice[s] to Owners, Lessees and Occupiers', to Archer and Son, solicitors to Bedford Level Corporation, for property required by railway on river and drains in Cottenham, Haddenham and Mepal (all with inserted postcards to acknowledge receipt of letter by railway's solicitor); copy legal statement of 'Provision for crossing the 100 feet [Hundred Foot] and Old Bedford Rivers and Washes', with annotated draft of same; folded linen colour sectional diagram of proposed design of 'Viaduct over the Washes and Bridges over the Hundred Foot and Old Bedford Rivers' by Richard Johnson [engineer; proposed crossing in parish of Mepal, see sheet no.12 of plans and sections; not constructed]
iii) Norfolk Central Railway Bill (q.v. Q/RUm85) 1876: copy of bill, 1876
iv) Ely, Sutton and Haddenham Railway Bill (q.v. Q/RUm82) 1876: formal 'Notice to Owners, Lessees and Occupiers' to Bedford Level Corporation for property required by railway of river bank, pasture etc. at Haddenham, Willingham and Over (with inserted note, December 1875)
v) Norfolk Estuary Bill 1877 (to repeal 1857 Act): copy of bill; three notices to Bedford Level Corporation of intention to apply for act of parliament, December 1876
