TitleLease books and leases
DescriptionThis series comprises the original Corporation Lease books, printed copies of corporation rentals and individual expired leases. The lease books contain transcripts of conveyances, agreements, contracts and mortgages. Each volume is indexed alphabetically at the front or rear of the volume. The volumes are arranged chronologically and each transcript gives the date, the names of the parties involved, a title, and details of the stamps attached to the original. The volumes contain contracts and agreements for services, supplies and materials; conveyances for land; and mortgages raised against the rates of the borough fund. These lease books are listed in the 1929 Palmer and Barnard list formerly noted as at location Guildhall Shelf D. In most instances this catalogue has been divided to reflect pre 1835 records as listed by Palmer and Barnard in sub-collection CB/1 however to avoid breaking a consistent series of records these lease books have been listed together.
