TitleMemorial relating to the atrocities in Bulgaria
DescriptionThe atrocities in Bulgaria referred to relate to the crushing of an uprising in the region of Plovdiv in April 1876 by the Ottoman rulers. Thousands of civilians were massacred which promoted a public reaction campaign against the "Bulgarian Horrors" lead by liberal Europeans such as Gladstone. The meeting in Cambridge was part of that reaction. This series contains a petition to call a public meeting, a notice for that meeting and a letter from the Mayor to the town clerk.
