DescriptionThis material consists of a charter for the incorporation of the Commissioners for the 1862 International Exhibition; printed and handwritten correspondence between the Commissioner's office in London and the Corporation of Cambridge; correspondence between the Society of Arts and the Corporation of Cambridge; copies of printed decisions of the Commissioners for the Exhibition; blank request forms for space at the exhibition; a printed list of staff and committees; a public notice requesting submissions from local artists from Cambridge intending to exhibit; a receipt of artefacts received from Cambridge and details of the names and addresses of owners of works of arts loaned to the South Kensington Museum; details of the opening ceremony and a request for a copy of the town's coat of arms; and an advertisement for copies of the exhibition catalogue. Exhibitors from Cambridge included Robert Maynard, an agricultural engineer; Robert Richard Royston, a decorative painter and glass illuminator; and Frederick Parker, a carriage builder.
