TitleChancery proceedings relating to the erection of a new Corn Exchange in Cambridge
DescriptionThis Chancery case was brought by the Attorney General at the behest of named ratepayers of the Borough to try to prevent the Corporation purchasing land and property in Wheeler Street for the construction of a new Corn Exchange arguing that the provisions of the Cambridge Corporation Act 1850 are not sufficient to allow the purchase as Wheeler Street does not form part of the Market Place as laid out in the act. The case is found in favour of the Corporation at it's first hearing and on appeal in the House of Lords.
