DescriptionThis award contains seventeen recommendations resulting from the evidence presented to Sir John Patteson. These recommendations relate to the abolishment of certain oaths; upholding the rights of the Proctors to prosecute members of the University; powers of the vice-chancellors to issue alehouse licenses and wine licences; the Corporation's powers and authorities respecting weights and measures; abolishment of University powers relating to markets and fairs; powers of the Corporation in directing public exhibitions or performances; the continuation of University powers for discommuning with tradesmen; amendments to powers of the Justices of the Peace to prosecute members of the University; requirements for the University to send a duplicate copy of appointments of constables; the quotas of town and university and land tax should remain as they are; a list of decrees relating to the parish locations of college properties and lists of properties not to be rated; no action is taken to alter the constitution of the Improvement Commissioners; appointments to the Watch Committee are recommended; and Sir J Patterson recommends that no retrospective compensation should be claimed.
