DescriptionThe work of the Architectural section was supervised and controlled by a Chief Assistant Architect divided into two major categories, Housing and Education.

Housing

The Chief Assistant (Housing) attended meetings of the Housing Committee with the Surveyor and was also responsible for inspections and reports on premises subject of applications for improvement grants including inspection and certification.

Education

All quantity surveying on Education projects and bills of quantities for Housing projects were carried out by private quantity surveyors and outside consultants were most often used for for major heating and electrical works. The maintenance and repairs for school buildings was also the responsibility of the Architectural Section managed by a Clerk of Works.

Plans were filed and indexed by allocating each project a job number.
