DescriptionBundle of documents consisting of the brief on behalf of the rating authority responding to appeal of Churchill, Kings, Downing and Newnham Colleges; a summary of proposals lodged in Mar 1964; proofs of Mr Bewlay, Senior Partner in Fowler, Bewlay, Ouston, Moore and Co rating surveyors and valuers; valuations of Churchill College, Kings College, Downing College, Newnham College, the chemical laboratories, the University Library, the School of Divinity, and Senate House by Mr Hubert Bewlay; a description of the buildings; notes by the City Treasurer on University and College rating appeals; a list of interest rates on loans; college accounts for the year 1963-1964; a list of payments passing between Cambridge Colleges and Cambridge University between 1947-1964; a statement showing how the proportion of the total rate burden borne by the main buildings of the University and Colleges has fallen since 1955; gross values and rates paid in various years between 1955-1964; a letter from PM Vine, town clerk, to F Mills relating to costs of recent University Building projects; an extract from a judgment in a case of the Lanarkshire Asessor versus Lanarkshire Indoor Bowling club; an extract from returns from Universities in receipt of a Treasury grant; an extract from a report of the Committee appointed by the Prime Minister under the Chairmanship of Lord Robbins on Oxford and Cambridge Colleges; Cambridge Colleges comparison of various aspects of valuations including building costs, land per acres, overall allowances, and chimneys; and an annotated copy of Cambridge OS map XLVII.2 (1927 edition) with a key to 18 college buildings attached.
