DescriptionThis report was composed by Mr John Wood on his resignation from the office as engineer and surveyor in order to help his replacement. It details how work was conducted before he began in post and the department came into being. He details how work is recorded and wages paid; the significance of employing a lead paviour and mason on the quality of work; the establishment of a smithy to sharpen tools and appointment of a storekeeper; procedure for the receipt and delivery of materials; and writing of reports.
