TitleScheme for the diversion of sewage from the River Cam
DescriptionThis series consists of correspondence and extracts from minutes and reports relating to schemes for the diversion of the sewage of the town from the River Cam. It includes material relating to the application for a provisional order for the compulsory purchase of land on which to build the sewage works; material relating to differing sewage systems adopted by other towns and particulars of the three main proposals for the system in Cambridge; the schemes of Mr Rowe, Mr Bazalgette and Mr Stephenson. Correspondence is between the Improvement Commissioners and other interested parties; including Clement Francis, the clerk to the Conservators of the River Cam; HW Cookson, vice-chancellor of St Peter's College, and J Power, vice-chancellor of Pembroke College, on behalf of the University Syndicate; and the secretary of the Local Government Board (LGB).

The series also contains material relating to a Chancery case against five named Commissioners requesting an injunction against expending any finance raised in rates on the promotion of the Cambridge Improvement Bill, 1871.
