DescriptionThis series relates to the passage of the Valuation Bill, a bill promoted by the Cambridge Improvement Commissioners to settle matters of difference between the University and the town relating to the assessment and valuation of property, and the raising of rates. The material consists of copies of the Valuation Bill, 1877 and 1878; amended clauses to these bills; copies of the Cambridge Award Act, 1856; minutes of meetings, reports and recommendations of a special committee to consider questions of the assessment and rating of the town and University; correspondence between the assistant clerk to the Commissioners, JW Neville, the parliamentary agents for the bill, Sharpe and Co; and members of the University; cases for the opinion of RE Webster, A Thesiger and Mr Fitzgerald relating to the valuation bill and amended clauses; and extracts from the Cambridge Chronicle.
