DescriptionThis scrapbook contains bills and receipts relating to rates, rents and expenditure incurred in pursuit of the poor law. It contains lists of individuals, and the amount of relief given, claiming weekly poor relief within the parish. The names of those claiming relief remain similar through out the book, the following names appear frequently: James Newman; James Tuck; John Burrage; John Thilsden; William Bleet; William Newit; G[e]orge Newit; James Easy; David Chapman; Hannah Smith; Mary Tuck; Ann Burrage; Eliz Wright; Eliz Press; Eliz Kittson; Sarah Ringsbery; Ann Chapman; Eliza Catley; Cathren Tabor; Edmand Amey; and Eliza Ratford.

The volume contains a number of settlement certificates; orders against removal orders; receipts for expenses incurred in pursuing absent fathers; receipts for the services of midwives and clergy; receipts for purchase of specific supplies for the poor, in particular shoes; as well as for goods such as medicines, clothing and laundry supplies. Some of these items have been listed individually.

The volume also contains the original contract between the Overseers of the Poor and John Gray for the erection of a new workhouse in 1828.
