TitleBundle of notices, reports and correspondence of local board business
Description-Medical Officers Annual Report, 1888. Reports of a lower death toll this year due to improved public utility. Estimated a population of 6949 and number of death registered is 111. The report records number of births registered and infant mortality. "With regard to the sanitary supervision of the district, slow but useful work is being done in the abolition of cesspools of ill-construction and hidden closets, where ever a dry system or access to a properly constructied sewer is attainable"..."As major instances I may note a row of houses at the end of Searle Street where all old blocked drain and cesspool have been abolished and a new drain carried along the back into Queens Street sewer, thence to the front...". References to: Bridge Road, Trafalgar Street, Fulchers Terrace, Histon Road, Benson Street, Victoria Road, Huntingdon Road and Bermuda Row. Includes a Table of Deaths.

-Report of Finance Committee confirming it has examined the surveyors treasurers and clerk's accounts, Nov 1888.
-Correspondence reporting on the last quarterly correspondence concerning the River Cam Navigation. "There is no improvement in the condition of the River between The Ferry Bridge at Old Chesterton and Jesus Green Sluice and at the mouths of some of the main sewers the mud banks have so accumulated that they will very soon form an impediment to both drainage and navigation", 6 Nov, 1888.

-Letter from the Clerk of the Conservators concerning £75 contribution from the board towards the drudging works, 23 April, 1889.
-Report from the Medical Officer of Health (Bushell Anningson) concerning nuisances, 5 Jun 1889
-Letter from the secretary of Bank Buildings, on behalf of the Cambridge University abd Town Waterworks Company, informing the board that the damage caused to the company's Main in Benson Street needs to be repaid the cost for repair, 3 May 1889. A following letter in reply to a reponse by the board sees the company rejecting the offer and requiring full payment, 29 June 1889
-Letter from Local Government Board, Whitehall to state that no further payments will be made by the Government in repsect of Main Roads, 6 May 1889
-Notice of mortgage of interest between Alfred Jones of Trumpington House, Chesterton Local Board and builder and contractor, George Elches Mills, 10 May, 1889
-Letter from the Clerk of the Peace's Office, Shire Hall to the board stating they must not expect the county council to not financially contribute further to the maintenance of Main Roads, 14 June 1889. A following letter from the Clerk acknowledging receipt of a reply from the board states the county council will contribute half of the total of expenses of maintaining the roads, 18 June 1889.
-Letter from the General Post Office requiring consent from Chesterton Local Board to "erect poles and wire from the existing line in the Huntingdon Road to the Post Office Victoria Road, by way of Victoria Road and the back road to Fisher Street", 15 June 1889. A copy of the reply giving consent attached, 16 June 1889 as well as a reply from the engineer.
-Costs in relation to the proposed diversion of a footpath as drawn up by the surveyors of the highways of Chesterton to the local board. Costs date back to 1875
-Report of the General Purposes Committee that there are five slaughterhouses in the district but not registered, 3 July, 1889
-Letter from William Henry Brown of Louise House, Alpha Road requesting the road to be made a public highway nad that the road name will remain the same, 2 July, 1889

-Frederick Hawkes' application for a licence to for the use of his property (62 Chesterton Road) as a slaughterhouse, 3 July, 1889
-Report from General Purposes Committee and the concern of having an outfall for sewerage from houses in a number of roads requiring an open drain which will become a nuisance. Alternative recommendations are made by John Butler, Ransom and J. Foster, 3 July, 1889
-Letter from the Allotment Society to the local board acknowledging the assistance given by the board in obtaining allotments by the voluntary powers, 17 July, 1889
-Letter from J. Whitehead, Superintendent of Cambridgehsire Constabulary pressing for the board to act under the Towns Police clause to against WIlliam Gooby who was found drunk and disrorderly and using obscene language, 17 Jun 1889. A following letter to the board from J. Whitehead to withdraw the request has William Gooby had been convicted for assault of a police officer and is serving a prison sentence, 2 July 1889
-Acknowledgement of letter and inquiring into the date of resolution passed by the local board in the appointment of John Tunwell as Inspector of Nuisances, 14 Aug, 1889 and the sanctioning of his appointment by Whitehall, 27 Aug, 1889
-Completion of Whitehall survey concerning members of the local board. Lists the members and officers (plus the latter's pay):
