DescriptionLetters from J. Musgrave Francis, clerk to the Conservators of the Cam all concerning the Boards contribution to the work of clearing the sewage in the river Cam:
-The Conservators' surveyor reported a considerable accumulation of sewage is at the mouth of the Chesterton sewer near the site of the new bridge. This should be removed immediately to prevent a flood leading to dispersal into the river, Aug 1890
-Enquiring into what steps have been taken by the Board for the removal of the sewage, Oct 1890
-The surveyor has reported that town council is doing their part to remove the sewage from the Cambridge side of the river but that nothing was being done on the Chesterton side, Nov 1890
-The surveyor has reported the sewage on teh Cambridge side has been removed but nothing has been done on the Chesterton side of the river and the accumulation "will soon form serious obstructions to both the drainage and navigation". No further delay to be allowed, Feb 1891
-The Conservators have decided to arrange for a general cleansing of the river by dredger in the months of December and January and the proportions which should be contributed by the Board and the Coporation of Cambridge, May 1891
-Estimated cost for cleansing the river £100 to be paid by the Board, £250 by the Corporation and £100 by the Conservators, Aug, 1891
-The Conservators are pressing payment of £100 which was explained fully to the Board's surveyor. The Corporation of Cambridge has paid their contribtion and cleaned the river three times whereas "the Board on their side have done practically nothing in the same direction", Nov 1891

Printed letter to Chesterton Local Board with enclosed orders regarding "large numbers of aliens in a filthy and otherwise unwholesome condition are now being brought into this country, and that the danger of the inotrduction of cholera is thereby increased"..."The Order confers power on the Medical Officer of Health in the case of any ship which has on board passengers of the class above mentioned, to certify in his opinion, with a view to checking the introduction or spread of cholera, the persons on board should not be allowed to land until they satisfy him...". Includes a copy of the regulation.
