TitleCromwell Museum Management Committee 1974-2016
DescriptionIn 1973 it looked probable that the new County Council would inherit the delivery of the Cromwell Museum in Huntingdon and the Peterborough Museum, both of which were operated by Huntingdon and Peterborough County Council. The Peterborough Museum was quickly transferred to Peterborough City Council but no such arrangements were agreed with Huntingdonshire District Council, and so the Cromwell Museum became the only museum to be directly financed and managed by the new County Council.

The Cromwell Museum Management Committee was set up in 1974. It was comprised of members from the County Council and Huntingdonshire District Council, and it reported to the Leisure and Amenities Committee (see CC7/M8/1). In 1981 the Leisure and Amenities committee was dissolved. Thereafter the Cromwell Museum Management Committee reported to the Libraries and Museums Sub-Committee 1981-1989 (CC7/M8/4), and it was renamed the Cromwell Museum Management Sub-Committee. In 1989 the Libraries and Amenities Sub-Committee was dissolved and the Sub-Committee thereafter reported to the Education Committee 1989-1997 (CC7/M5/1); its name reverted back to the Cromwell Museum Management Committee, and its role was clarified as being that of a service advisory group. The Committee reported to the Education Libraries and Heritage Committee 1997-2001 (see CC7/M5/14).

In 2014 the County Council resolved to withdraw all funding for the museum. The independent Cromwell Museum Trust was set up in 2015 and the museum was transferred to the Trust in May 2016.
