DescriptionRecites deed of 28 May, 1675, by which Trustees were appointed to raise £6,000 from the Manors of Conington, Glatton and Holme, after the death of Sir John Cotton, to be paid as stated under the will of Sir John Cotton. To Robt. Cotton, son, £2,000 to be paid within 1 year of death. To Robt. Cotton and John Proby of Elton, Hunts., £4,000 in trust for Elizabeth Walden, Hester Walden, Margaret Walden, and Cotton Walden grandchildren. £1,000 apiece, with interest to be paid on majority. To Robt. Cotton, son, Sir Miles Heneage of Hatton Garden, and John Proby of Elton, Hunts, Esq., and their heirs on trust Manor of Awconbury alias Aukenbury Weston, Hunts, with land in Auconbury - to sell and with the money discharge my debts. Out of the residue, pay: To Thomas Cotton, grandson, £2,000. The poor of Glatton and Holme, Hunts, £200. The poor of Sawteree, Hunts, £40. The poor of Steeple Gidding, £20. The poor of Denton, Hunts, £20. The poor of Stilton, Hunts, £20. The poor of Connington, Cambs, £20. The poor of Little Gransden, £10. The poor of St. Margaret's, Westminster, £40. The poor of St. Michael by Allhallows, Co. Hertford, £20. Robert Cotton, son, any residue. Mary Honywood Cotton, dau., Mannor of Upton, Hunts, with lands there. All my money in The Bank of England, with all papers, notes, escrits, and securities, which I have for the same. Dame Elizabeth Cotton, wife, all the rest of estate and arrears of rent due. Executrix - wife - to cause me to be buried at Connington, Hunts. Codicil of 18 April, 1702: As wife has died, Robert Cotton, son and Mary Honywood Cotton, dau., appointed executors. Rest of estate and arrears of rent goes to them in equal shares. Proved 15 Sept. 1702, at London. (P.C.C.)
