TitleDeed to Lead Uses of Fine (Release)
Description(1) Thomas Hart, Warfield, Berks, and Jane, his wife; Thomas Bowdler, Ashley, Wilts, Esq. and Eliz. Stuart, his wife; Frances Cotton and Mary Cotton, Stretton Hall, spinsters. (The 4 women were the daus. and co-heiresses of Sir John C., late of Conington, Bart, decd. and devisees named in his will.) (2) Sir John Heathcote, Normanton, Rutland, Bart. Recites: (i) Will of Sir John Cotton, 18 Apr. 1750 directing that his 4 daus. should have out of his estate enough money to make up, with what they have already had, £16,000 apiece. (ii) Agreement of (1) with (2) for the purchase by (1) of the named lands (freehold), for £52,500. Now for £52,500 paid by (2), (1) to (2) (in possession by Bargain and Sale of yesterday) Manor of Conington (fields listed) with all lands etc. in Conington, late belonging to Sir John Cotton, decd., now to (1). Free of charges, except: 1) provision made by indenture of 15 Oct. 1714 for Thos. Cotton of Stretton and Frances, his wife. 2) Term of 1,000 years created 12 May, 1739 to raise £3,000 apiece for Sir John Cotton's daus. Now assigned by Chas. Jennens Esq., to Taylor White, Esq. 3) Term of 99 years created 18 May, 1744 to provide for Dame Sarah Cotton, wife of Sir Robt. Cotton, Bart, now assigned to Taylor White, Esq. 4) Annuities charged on the estate of the late Sir John Cotton by his will of 18 April, 1750. 5) Demise of 22 Aug. 1749 to Mary Coke, widow, for 200 years for £1,000. Now assigned to Taylor White, Esq. 6) £40 p.a. payable to Rector of Conington, in lieu of tythes. Agreed that 1 shall levy a fine in favour of 2. of Manor of Conington with apps; 12 messuages; 4 mills; 1600 ac. land; 300 ac. meadow; 1,000 ac. pasture; 700 ac. moor; £10 rent with apps. in Conington; Advowson of Conington Church. To the use of 2. Endorsed: Accounts of payment and receipt of £52,500.
