Description1. John Hart Cotton, only s.& h. of Thomas Hart, late of Warfield, Esq., decd. and Jane Hart, one of the heirs of Sir John Cotton, late of Conington, Bart., decd. 2. Frances Cotton, late of Harley St., but now residing in foreign parts, sp. one of the heirs of the late Sir John Cotton. 3. Thomas Bowdler, Bath, Esq., and Arthur Annesley, Inner Temple, London, Esq. 4. Rt. Hon. Earl of Hapsburg, Denbigh and Desmond, and Mary, Countess of sme, another of the heirs of Sir John C. Sir Robt. Burdett, Foremark, Derbys., Bart. and Chas. Jennens, Gopshall, Leics., Esq. 5. John Heathcote, Nth. Luffenham, Rutland, Esq. Recites: 1) Mary Cotton, decd., dau. of Thomas C., decd. and Frances his wife, being right heir of Sir John C., the grandfather of the above-named Sir John C. 2) Mary C., decd. by her last will of 10 Feb. 1738, left everything to her mother, Frances C. 3) Indenture of 1 Aug. 1753 and Fine of Mich. 1753, by which ¼s of the Manor were conveyed to the 4 co-heirs of Sir John C. 4) Lease/Release 15/16 Oct. 1764 by which 1. and Jane Hart conveyed their ¼ of the Manor of Steeple G/Gidding Abbotts, with advowson, lands etc. to Burdett and Jennens, to use of 1. 5) 2. seized in fee simple of ¼ of the Manor etc. 6) Indenture of 19 Apr. 1756 by which 3. and his wife, directed their ¼ to Arthur Annesley in trust for 3. 7) Lease/Release of 1/2 Apr. 1757, Marriage Settlement of Earl and Countess of Denbigh wherein conveyed her ¼ to Firebrace, Burdett and Jennens in trust to sell if necessary. 8) Death of Firebrace, so Burdett and Jennens sole trustees. 9) Deed Poll of 20 June last, in which Earl and Countess of Denbigh instructed their trustees to b.& s. and convey their ¼. 10) Agreement of 5. with all other parties for the purchase of the several quarters with apps. for £22,800. Now for £5,700 apiece from 5. to John Hart C., Frances C., Thos. Bowdler, and to Burdett and Jennens by direction of Earl and Countess of D., they release to 5. in possession by lease of yesterday, their ¼s of the Manor of Gidding Abbotts/Steeple G. (field-names and acreages given) with advowson of Steeple G. church, lands and apps. And John Hart Cotton, Frances Cotton Thomas Bowdler, and Basil, Earl of Denbigh, promise that they, and Mary, Countess of D. will levy one or more fine in favour of 5., to use of 5. Of the above premises: 1, 2, 3 and 4 promise to 5. that estate is clear except for terms of 200 and 300 years created by indenture of 15 July, 1693, which by indenture of even date are to be assigned to Taylor White, Lincolns Inn, Mddx., Esq., in trust for 5. 1, 2, 3, and 4 promise that they have done nothing to emember(?) the estate. Endorsed: Receipts for the several sums of £5,700 Thomas Holled signs for 2., having power of attorney. Enclosed: Receipt of July 29th 1771. Frances C. acknowledges the receipt of £5,700 from John Heathcote, Esq., Thomas Holled by virtue of his power of attorney, had received it for her.
