TitleCotton v. Cotton Robert Pulleyn, Esq., one of the defendants, answer to the Bill of Complaint of Sir John Cotton, Bart, complt.
DescriptionDefdt. is a barrister and Sir John C. the grandfather was his client and about 20 years ago left this defdt. certain settlements re. his estate to peruse but he does not remember them and it was in confidence. Denies charges made in the Bill. Denies that he has ever possessed any title to any Manors, lands etc. late Sir John C's or Sir Thos. C's. Does not know that Sir Thomas C. of Sir John C. were possessed of any Manors, lands etc. in Great Gransden and denies that he has in his custody any deeds etc. belonging to the complainant. Confesses that he had in his custody 20 years ago the marriage settlement of Sir John C. and Dame Elizabeth, but he does not know where it is now. Does not remember making a copy of the said settlement made of the Manor of Great or Little Gransden or seeing a copy. But he has in his custody as steward of the Manor of Little Gransden to the defdt. Sir Robt. C. Lord of the said Manor of Little Gransden, the Court Book of the said manor and other papers of said Court since he has been steward, which he hopes it is lawful for him to keep for use of Sir Robt. C. Denies that he has in his custody any court-rolls of the Manor of Glatton-cum-Holme or any other Court Rolls of any lands of the defdt. Denies ever having seen any settlement of Sir Thomas C. supposed to have been made in 1659 or 1660. Denies all charges and prays to be dismissed with costs and charges most wrongfully sustained.
