| Title | Statement of Case. by J. Hinde. sent to J. Heathcote at Berkley Sq. |
| Description | The Duke of Manchester is claiming ownership of the Manor of Upton on the grounds that it goes with the Lordship of Coppingford, which is his. Also on the grounds that he owns the Advowson of Upton. Includes statement by Mr. Robt. Mitchell, agent to the estates for many years, attesting to the fact that Upton Manor belongs to the Heathcote family. That those who advanced the Montague claim i.e. Dr. Walton the rector, who dug clay there c.15 years ago and a Mr. John Cooke, who went coursing there a few years ago, admitted their errors. Mr. Mitchell was agent to the Cotton family for 39 years, and they keepered the estate and held courts there, as the Heathcotes have, and as is the right of the Lord of the Manor. |
