TitleLetter from Will. Hallsey, Sawtry (steward - dorse) to Sir John Cotton, Bart. at Cotton House, Westminster.
DescriptionReferring to Sir John's letter of last of Jan. re. his trial with Lord Devonshire. Hallsey tells him that his former witnesses, all non-commoners, are all alive save one. That the ground at Gidding is just now divided and he is going to divide the stock up between it. Reports that Kenelm Collins has received a letter from Sir Humphrey Monnoxe to give him an account of the yearly value of the jointure grounds at Gidding both now and in Sir Thomas Cotton's time for Sir Humphrey is to raise £1,000 out of these grounds for part of his wife's portion. Hallsey is worried about the disposition of the stock if Sir Humphrey lets the grounds and asks advice re. this. Suggests letting Sir Humphrey have the stock in part of the £1,000.
