TitleLetter T. White to (Sir John Heathcote)
DescriptionHas returned here against inclination to despatch this Stewkley affair. Nothing yet done because Mr. Mead is out of town - he is displeased with Mr. Bertie for not consulting him and at this sale - only his friendship for White makes him do anything without the direction of a Court of Chancery. But he has said that he will do what White thinks reasonable and White is now trying to remove his objections. Now there is difficulty with Mr. Bertie. He thinks it hard to lose the rents and profits (of the estate) and to receive no interest and wants White to interfere. But White knows that the purchase money has made no interest and that Bertie could have had his money on the appointed day if he had made a title so does not see why (H.) should pay. Another matter is paying for the transaction. He knows that (H) has agreed to pay the expenses of the Common Conveyances and for examination of the title but this will not cover the transaction, which has brought him (W) from Chester and will consume a large part of his vacation. He does not know Mr. Bertie but Mr. Mayer promises to regulate this matter in a proper way.
