The collection illustrates the farming methods and stock keeping systems in Huntingdonshire villages which bordered Whittlesey Mere: turf lots and feeding parts are frequently mentioned in the deeds. The collection also gives useful information concerning the legal aspects of the draining of the Mere, the acquisition of land by the Great Northern Railway Company and the Ramsey Railway Company, and the processes whereby the Wells family acquired their large estates to the county.
